Are you living in the matrix?

posted in: Every day wisdom | 0

When I first embarked upon this journey of Quantum Change Coach, I said to my then mentor that life is like the Matrix, and he responded by stating, That’s one way of looking at it, Janet, but not many people see that.

Anybody who knows me knows that I love the movie The Matrix. Throughout the different stages in my life, The Matrix has played a significant role by pointing out certain truths.

Whether it’s when I was in church or cognitive endeavours,  20+ years on, this movie still has relevance, so I wanted to share some of these insights with you.

What is The Matrix?

It’s a movie from 1999 with Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Cari-Anne Moss. It’s about a group of people living in a fabricated reality. It makes you think about what is real and what it means to be living in the matrix.

For this article, the Matrix is what you believe to be true. How you interpret a situation or think about a person, you can think these thoughts and feelings are authentic. As such, those same feelings must be the same for anyone else looking at this situation or think about a person. But that is not universally true.

When we fail to consider another perspective or recognise the role we have played in creating the personal experience, worse still, not even realising you have a personal experience, you could be said to be living in the Matrix.

What is reality?

No two people ever see things the same way.

You can be in the same room as another person, but they will see things in different ways, feel things in different ways interpret things in different ways based upon the thinking they believed to be true moment by moment.

However, many people do not realise this and believe how they see the world is actual. Still, in essence, it’s a personal reality, not a universal reality where everybody sees things in the same way. The movie was getting you to question what is real and what is fabricated.

Understanding reality is relevant to daily living because arguments start due to the way you interpret a situation. You may think the way you see a situation as accurate, universally and expect others to see things the way you do, but in essence, that is your reality. Distinguishing what is universally true and a personal truth can lead to a more peaceful life.

Three things I have seen

Unlearning to see the truth.

When Ne-Yo ( Keanu Reeves character) wakes up in the real world, he realises that everything he believed was true in the matrix was a simulation. He has to unlearn everything he thought was true to understand this new world, the actual reality.

I some ways, this can be said about our experience. You can often walk through this life thinking everyone sees life the way you do. As stated earlier, this can be the basis for many arguments. When you start to see that your life experience is based upon values and beliefs personal to you, your life experience changes. You begin to see what your judgments are based upon, and in seeing this, the decisions start to fade because they only led to arguments. The more you see this, the more the unhelpful values and beliefs disappear.

Destructive truth

Once you have seen the truth, you can’t go back to the lie. As much as you would like to ‘un-see it as it can seem more convenient, it can’t be unseen, and all the fallacies fall away.

This truth can be pretty scary as everything you had believed to be true turns out to be a fallacy. With the support and guidance of a Quantum Change Coach, you can be safe knowing the truth cannot hurt you. The truth refines you to let go of the stories you have created about your life so you can live your life from a place of authenticity.

Know thyself

In one of my favourite scenes in The Matrix, Neo goes to see the Oracle. Above the door in Latin is the phrase ‘Knows Thy Self’.

As stated previously, you can believe what others ( media, friends, teachers) say about you and not look any further than that.

When you understand who and what you are.

When you can see the role your values and beliefs play when trying to make sense of a situation.

When you understand the fundamental principles behind all human experience, then you begin to understand yourself. And as you start to understand yourself, you understand others because the same fundamental principles apply.

What does it mean to be living in the matrix?

Finally, do you choose to reject the truth and stay in the matrix?

A character in the movie called Cypher wants to be plugged back into the matrix because he finds reality difficult to live with.

Many people choose not to see the truth because it means taking responsibility for your life. Many people avoid that responsibility and would rather believe in what they are being told and even up to their self-esteem or prophecy.

Conclusion

For many, our daily lives can seem like we live in a matrix, listening and believing what others state about us, never looking further and seeking the truth as such remain plugged into your personal reality.

However, if you choose to ‘Know thyself, you will see you are powerful beyond measure!

If you choose to wake up and have a glimpse of reality, click the link and have an alignment session with me.

What is the difference between quantum change coaching and regular coaching?

posted in: Every day wisdom | 0

Let me tell you how I can help you change your thoughts and habits.

My name is   Janet Rhynie.  I am a Quantum Change Coach here to Educe, Elevate and liberate your mind to live a life you’ve yet to imagine.

Now that may seem like a whole mouthful, and you’re not sure what it might be, so that’s why I’m here to explain to you precisely what I do when I work with you.

https://youtu.be/oYV74jkJsHA

What is Educe, Elevate, Liberate?

Educe is ‘to draw out of’,  So I’m not here to teach you something new, I’m here to draw out of you what is already within you and has been since the beginning of time, but we’ve just forgotten. My mission is to help you recognise and realise how powerful you are and rediscover your true identity.  As a result, you start to elevate how you think and see things from a different perspective. You begin to think in different ways because you are renewed. When you start to see yourself differently, think differently, your life changes, liberating you from negative thinking to look to a different future.

What is quantum change coaching? ‘A vivid, surprising, benevolent and enduring personal transformation ‘. That is a definition given by William Miller in his book Quantum Change. An inner transformation takes place not only in the way you see yourself but also in how you see other people. That’s where benevolence comes in because there can be an overwhelming feeling of kindness, not only to others but towards yourself also. In this way, the transformation and change is permanent because this change has come from within, insight from within, and once you’ve seen something different, you can’t go back to seeing it the same way again.

How can change happen?

Sometimes it can be gradual, and people have small insights along the way, and in other ways, it can be fast-paced with things changing all of a sudden, with no logical explanation for what has happened. There is a change at the very heart that permeates every aspect of your life.

How does it work?

There are several different ways we can work together 1:1 sessions, group coaching and online self-directed. But the how starts with you, releasing your true essence to recognise the power you genuinely are, redefining who you are and how you see yourself before looking at how you create your experience. This Quantum Change approach to change takes you on a journey within, changing your world without.

What are the benefits?

Quantum change – ImplicationTechniques – Application
Simplicity – DiscriminatorComplexity – Techniques dependant upon the issue
Experience in the momentThoughts from past to present
ObjectiveSubjective
Intrinsic – InsightExtrinsic – Action
PredictiveChaotic
DescriptivePrescriptive
Paradigm shiftBehavioural shift

It can be seen in this table; there are no complicated techniques to learn or actions to take. There is simplicity because you understand how you work. You can be objective, so you can remove yourself from the situation if required. It’s descriptive, so we’re not telling you what processes to use and what to do but more to understand. How things change in your own life is up to you! As such, there is a Paradigm shift in how you see the world, not just in your behaviours.

Who is this for?

People who can come to me for personal coaching have been anxious, stressed, depressed, and have tried counseling and therapy for many years, and nothing has changed.

And professionally, those who have blind spots within their practice want to see beyond their thinking to help others.

Why Do We Fear Change?

posted in: Every day wisdom | 0

Do you suffer from Metathesiophobia?

It’s a new month and a new season and lots of things are changing around us. Change is inevitable and yet as humans, we can become very fearful of change. Metathesiophobia is a fear of change.

Fear has a role to play in our lives and is a protective factor. We are born with a fear of falling and a fear of loud noises. In the modern age, we have developed other fears: a fear of meeting new people or fear of changing environments.

If we allow fear to lead our lives, it could lead us to not taking the steps to change our lives, an inability to make decisions, and even a dependence on possessions in an effort to feel safe.

How To Move Beyond Fear

There are many different techniques that you can use to overcome your fears (some of which I will share in future videos or the eBook) however, overcoming your fears starts from the inside. It starts with changing your state of mind. Here are four tips for how we overcome resistance to change.

1. Be in the moment: When you are in the present moment, fear from the past and anxiety about the future fade.

2. Listen: Listen to what you’re saying to yourself.

3. Ask: As yourself if what you’re telling yourself is true or has some other influence blurred your view.

4. Shift: Can you now see the situation from a new and neutral perspective so that you can find answers.

For a deeper examination of how to move from fear of change to freedom from fear, press play on the video above.

Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel as I will be sharing more tips and resources to help you overcome fear of change in the coming weeks.

Working Remotely Has Many Missing The Office Environment

posted in: Every day wisdom | 0

Here in the UK it’s been just over a week since we’ve been mandated to be isolated. In other parts of the world, the isolation period may already be longer. And in other countries, it might not even be the time for you to be isolated but I just thought I’d share this so it helps you whether you are in this position right now or it is soon to come.

It’s really fascinating and interesting to see human nature at a time when they forced to change. We are all so resilient and it’s amazing to see how people have adapted to these strange in different times.

Observations Of Remote Work Culture

There has been a rising trend I have noted during this mandatory isolation period: people are missing their work experience. They’re missing their colleagues, their work family. But it goes deeper than merely missing the interaction of colleagues. People are missing who they are when they’re with other people. They’re missing a part of themselves that had developed and grown accustomed to that has now been taken away. And that loss has caused people to become anxious.

How To Decrease Feelings of Anxiety When Working Remotely

Here are some suggestions that can help:

1. Acceptance: Accept the current global reality and how that impacts the work experience.

2. Drop expectation: It’s hard enough working from home when you’re by yourself but if you have other family members and children he can feel almost impossible. Rather trying to maintain the same level of productivity as you do in the workplace, recognise the challenges you have within the home and only do what you can do. The person you were in the office cannot be the same person who is at home.

3. Be in the moment: We will never have a time like this in our lifetimes again. Embrace this time to do some of the things you have not given yourself permission to do before.

Going to barbers

So for me, it  was actually going to a barbers. Now, you know, I have short hair and only keep the sides short when I needed to get a trim. It was on a Monday, which is my non-working contract day. And I thought I need to go to the hairdresser to get the sides trimmed because I want to start doing some more videos. My regular hairdressers is a good hour away.

On this occasion though there’s a barber with some I think Eastern European guys run it at the bottom of my road where I leave. And I’m like,”I  should try them out. So first of all, I’m gonna go down there because it’s just down the road. It’s so much easier but supposing there are men in there?’ It’s barbers, more than likely, but it was Monday afternoon at 12 o’clock. So the odds were that there would have been fewer men around.

So unless you know you know how things can go you start to talk yourself out of something or I don’t want to go now let me wait to get to my hair dressers!!. What’s the worst that can happen? And that’s always my go to what’s the worst that can happen? You know, if they mess up the sides, it’ll grow back again in a couple of weeks time just got but you know what happens? You think about who’s going to be in there, what they’re going to think about you and we’re in a you know, a predominantly white area so they probably haven’t seen a black person going to their hairdressers to have their hair…., all of this kind of thinking.

And we’ve been there before we talk ourselves out some things I need to get my hair done. I’m going!!! I go into the hairdressers or the barbers. And there are two people in there already. Two men having their hair done. And the guys looked at me. Yes? ‘Can you just take my sides down?’, I ask And it was fine, absolutely fine. What was the most frightening part?

Is your self talk holding you back

My own self talk, trying to talk myself out of it? What if…. what might happen… then all of these things that never happened. In fact it was a positive experience, he had an opportunity to practice, you know, the texture of my hair, ask questions, it was great. So again, it’s just about trying something different. Even we do the smallest things that are different. We create new neural pathways, which means that we start to change and start to grow and have greater awareness and understanding of ourselves.

And also challenge ourselves about what is possible and what we can do. So yes, that’s my challenge for you. What have you done that’s been different this week?, coming out of your comfort zone, however small it is, whether it’s traveling in a different way to work, or because I do that with ways all the time, it takes different places, or just a different hairstyle. Anyway, I love you loads and I will speak with you soon.

I would love to hear what you do in order to love yourself and how that shows up for you. How it changes your life. Please leave a comment below.

Situation

I was working with a client a few weeks ago, and, and she was talking about how miserable she felt. She was focusing on her current situation; she was focusing on the fear of not only her current situation, but what could happen in the future.

No nobody can truly know what will happen in the future however we all do this don’t we? we imagine a future with the worst case scenario and then believe it will come true. This is what my client was doing;

she was creating a scenario of what could happen in the future,

based upon what had happened in the past.

whilst  in the current moment.

She was so fixated; she was so looking at the outside circumstances, things she had done or things she may do in the future which resulted in feelings of anxiety for a future she had not lived!! In that moment she hadn’t /couldn’t even recognise the ability, the capacity to be creative. In that moment she was creating new solutions for a problem that she created in the first instance.

That is what makes us as humans truly amazing; the capacity to create situations in the future ,experience that situation and create solutions whilst sitting or standing still! Phenomenal!

The metaphor

Let’s take a look at that metaphor of the clouds and the sun. It means that she was looking at her outside situation, she was looking at the story that she created. She was looking at outside circumstances, and believing that to be true. Just like the clouds, when we see a cloudy day, we can say: “Oh, it’s so miserable, I hate my situation, why couldn’t he/she be different.

But behind the clouds, the sun is still shining, behind all of the negative self talk we have about a situation lies our capacity to create, our resilience, an unlimited capacity to create something new, something, never before seeing.

When we stop time travelling and centre yourselves in the current moment, you are able to create solutions for a problem and in most instances the problem.

In the present moment

There is something new and fresh for you in the present moment, which enables you to continue to work through the situation to work through the perceived problem. And so is to recognise that even when the clouds are in the sky, even though it could be looking at our external circumstances, the sun is still shining, we still have our resiliency, we still have that innate quality to create new solutions.

When my client began to realise she was time travelling and began to centre herself in the moment, the feelings of anxiety dissipated.

Is your self talk holding you back?

posted in: Every day wisdom | 0

Often time do you want to try something new or do something you because we are tired of her old life. However, what prevents us from moving forward is our very own selves. In this Everyday Wisdom I share how I move beyond my own self talk to have a different experience.

I did something new

I did something different, I did something new. And there are so many books that I have read over the years, which tell you to,  go beyond your boundaries, out of your comfort zone, all of that good stuff. And sometimes you can think it’s about achieving something in work or achieving something personal, but it can be something really, really simple whatever that is.

Going to barbers

So for me, it was actually going to a barber. Now, you know, I have short hair and only keep the sides short when I needed to get a trim. It was on a Monday, which is my non-working contract day. Be Happy – No Matter What!

Do you feel horrible? Do you  really feel  this is the worst day ever? Could this be because of something that’s happened , someone has upset you, or the general state of the world today?

Well my friend, I’m here to tell you nothing outside can affect you, it is purely about how you are thinking about what you see.

Situation

I was working with a client a few weeks ago, and, and she was talking about how miserable she felt. She was focusing on her current situation; she was focusing on the fear of not only her current situation, but what could happen in the future.

Listen to inner voice

posted in: Every day wisdom | 0

This morning, I have been smiling at Michael Singer’s untethered soul because he was talking about that inner voice, about the inner critic, and about you recognizing what that voice is and where that voice is coming from.

And it’s fascinating because he’s saying, you know that you’re not that voice. You are the witness observing that voice. You know, you are the witness observing that.

And I think it’s really fascinating because this is something we don’t often think about and that I’d forgotten to think about. Because at a deeper level, we’re everything. I am that voice. I am also listening to that voice. I am also the energy that created that voice. I am all of it.

So when I’m coaching and speaking to people about self and what the self is, this is truly fascinating, as I can take it to that advanced level. So yes, it’s really interesting when you think, okay, I forgot about that voice in my head.

Oh, yeah, I’m taking that voice in my head seriously. It doesn’t mean a damn thing.

Self love to self loathe

posted in: Every day wisdom | 0

Insight – Self-loathing to Self loving

I called my online programme Black Butterfly because it’s about emerging from being a caterpillar and emerging into your true, beautiful self. In recent reflection upon my own journey, the words ‘self-loathing to self-loving’ came to me. Now, my initial thought was ‘oh gosh I didn’t hate myself.’

However, I remember growing up, particularly when I was really young, we were one of the few black families at that point on the road that I lived on. I recall wishing I could be like my friends and peers who had long straight hair. I used to ask myself, Why couldn’t my hair be long? And I don’t know if any of you guys have done this where you put the towel on your head and you swished it around pretending you had long hair? But this is what I distinctly remember doing, and in recalling these memories I realised that at a young age I didn’t like myself, and I wanted to change myself.

Growing Up

Even in later life, growing up as a teen, wanting to look like the images in the magazines. Now back then in the 80s, when I was a teenager, they didn’t have many images of black women and their natural hair and African clothes. And so it was hard to find role models, and so it was always about changing to fit in. As much as my mum told me I was beautiful and amazing and I had a very supportive family;  I still thought I wanted to change. I wanted to be different.

What I thought I knew

Now what was fascinating to me, as I was reflecting this morning, was that I thought I was quite confident in myself, and in who I was. Even when I stepped out and started my business in 2003, having spent 10 years as a probation officer, I thought, “I’m gonna learn all these different skill sets so that I can have the most successful business and being in personal development, learn all these different techniques”. But upon reflection, I realised that beneath it all, I wasn’t as happy with myself despite what I was telling myself. I was doing these courses for the bee’s knees. What I realised was that the first programmes/ courses that I did I applied to myself as a way of trying to change myself.

I Saw the Truth

And it wasn’t until probably last year, 49, that I actually accepted who I was. Even though I’ll be learning all this stuff back inside out everything that I’m sharing with you on the programme. It wasn’t until last year that I actually thought, yes! I’ve arrived.

I am comfortable in my own skin.

I am comfortable with who I am.

I love what I am because I understand about the spiritual nature of all things.

And now I can live my life.

And that’s when I came to realise why Black Butterfly is so important to me. Why wait 40 years before you can live your life when you can live your life now, at whichever age you are! You may already be here! May already realise, and if that’s the case, I am so happy for you.

You don’t know what you don’t know!

But if like me you didn’t even realise that you questioned and doubted, wanting to change who you were because you couldn’t accept who you were.

Then, this is why I’ve put the programme together. It’s for you to choose me to share my musings with you.

I’ll speak to you soon. Take care.

Live Beyond your Fear, Free your Mind and Heart

posted in: Every day wisdom | 0

Well, what, a year, it has been full stop, we’re now transitioning into a new time in our lives, an unprecedented time as we face move on from lockdown, can you believe it’s been a year since Coronavirus took hold of the world, and started to spread and change the world in ways we could never have imagined.

There have been lots of losses, loss of loved ones, loss of work, loss of identity, loss of self image and confidence, not knowing who and what we are. But there’s also been many gains and appreciation for what we already have and gratitude, prioritising what’s important in our lives, listening to the birds, the simple things in life. And now as we go into this new phase. What will life hold for us?

But more importantly, it’s how are you going to approach this new stage in your life.

Due to all of the changes that have taken place in the last 12 months there may be some fears and anxiety; fear and anxiety about being amongst others, anxiety about being in a crowd, what would it feel like to be in the crowd again whether you’ve had the vaccine or not and what’s it going to be like going back to work?

Will it be safe? Some people have been in lockdown for the majority of this year due to pre-existing health challenges and so what will life be like when they re-emerge into everyday life? We can be fearful of change at the best of times without COVID so what will happen now? https://quantumchangecoach.com/why-do-we-fear-change/

Change happens in spite to us, the power is in  how we face it, our state of mind as we move forward with this life.

It’s an inside out world. We can have techniques and approaches to address the fear deal, make the fear feel less painful. But before you can even try a technique, there’s always a decision, there’s always a thought that precedes the action; the thought that leads to the decision to address and deal with the fear.

In the right place

You see, you have to be in the right place for change, that’s not a physical place, you don’t have to be in nature or in a quiet spot I’m not talking about that, but being in a space, a space within yourself, a space of clarity, of awareness so that you can best understand and know what’s going on within you.

And so how did you get into this space.

Well, I’ve created a series of videos if you click below that will take you to these videos, but if you don’t want to watch the videos which will take you 10 minutes at most. If you don’t want to watch the videos  here is the edited version:

  1. What is fear? Fear has been around since the dawn of time and serves so many purposes but why are we afraid of fear?.
  2. Fear of failure. Yep! This is one of the main ones where we fear it but why? So many people state fear is the path to progress so why do we fear it. Overcoming fear of failure can open a world of opportunity.
  3. Fear of rejection! Whether is be a prospective partner or unsuccessful job interview we hate hearing the word ‘NO!’ Watch to find out how overcoming fear of rejection can open up a world of adventure.

‘Our feelings are a barometer of our thoughts.’ Sydney Banks – Missing Link

You see, our feelings are not something to get rid of. To avoid, but something to understand. Our feelings are making us aware of what we are thinking, and believe to be true.

An alternative approach to overcoming fear could be understanding fear.

If you can understand your feelings are alerting you to what thoughts you believe to be true; understanding the nature of thought ,you then understand that thought cannot hurt you. You are merely experiencing the feeling of those thoughts, and once you understand what a thought is when you understand you don’t have to run away from your feelings you can embrace fear. Because it can’t hurt you!

In embracing your fear, you’re able to take control of your life in a way, you had never considered before. So, in overcoming your fear it’s about understanding your thinking behind the feeling.
